Okay Pasco, you got me.
See, when my cohorts and I sat down Tuesday morning inside the Tribune’s Collier Parkway office, we took a look at this week’s football offerings and made our selections. Seven games, seven picks.
I picked Land O’ Lakes over Pasco.
I didn’t come to that decision lightly. Nor did I flip a coin, which at times I am tempted to do. I actually had to pause and give a few explanations. The first one, I expressed a bit of concern.
During the Aug. 28 Kickoff Classic when the Gators traveled to Mitchell, they had issues stopping the run and didn’t look completely settled on defense. Despite that, they won a shortened, exhibition, 21-14.
Additionally, Land O’ Lakes didn’t have any film on Pasco, except for last season’s 15-10 Pirates victory. Which meant if Pasco had any changes to their offense or defense or had any new weapons coming into the season opener, the Land O’ Lakes coaching staff wouldn’t know about it until the heat was on.
Even with those hiccups, I figured Land O’ Lakes would battle in a close game and eventually pull one out. My wisdom told me seeing how Land O’ Lakes had that one preseason game under it’s belt, that would serve as an advantage. Plus, Land O’ Lakes was getting three of its regulars back into the lineup. And if that wasn’t enough, Pasco was the lone loss during the Land O’ Lakes 2007 regular season.
Revenge is always sweet, right?
Yeah, so much for logic. Pasco absolutely dominated Land O’ Lakes Friday night, collecting a convincing, 26-6 win.
Here’s how bad it was, the Gators’ offense moved beyond the 50-yard line once in the second half.
So, Coach McHugh, Pasco High, my bad.
No worries though, I was wrong on three of my seven picks. Go figure.
And so I won’t be alone in this, 100 percent of fans on TBO.com picked Land O’ Lakes to win.
Yep, I did it. I threw them under the bus.
