OH Fernandez transfers to Tampa Prep

Outside hitter Gabby Fernandez, who led Bayshore Christian to the Class 1A region finals last season, has transferred to Tampa Prep, Tampa Prep volleyball coach Mike Flynn confirmed. Flynn said Fernandez enrolled earlier this summer.

Fernandez, a 6-foot hitter, finished the 2009 season with 370 kills. Tampa Prep has reached the 2A state tournament the last two seasons, and with Fernandez, the Terrapins could see a third consecutive appearance. Tampa Prep graduated its top hitter in Latora Lofgren, but return senior outside hitter Ericka McGriff, 6-foot-2 sophomore middle hitter Katie Krueger and senior outside hitter Jamie Hamilton, who missed most of the 2009 season with a torn ACL.

Volleyball practice officially begins Monday.
