The AAU champion Valrico Bullets moved into the semifinals of the National Youth Baseball Championships with a 6-5 victory against the National Amateur Baseball Federation champion Mississippi Lumberjacks on Saturday evening in Memphis, Tenn.
Nick Breen went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored for the Bullets, while Danny Schroeder went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
The Bullets fell behind early, giving up four runs in the top of the first inning, but a five-run bottom half gave them the lead 5-4. The Lumberjacks tied the game in the second, only for Green to immediately restore the Bullets advantage in the bottom half of the inning again.
From there, starting pitcher Austin Bergner settled down, holding the Lumberjacks off the board into the sixth inning. Logan Crouse recorded the final two outs for the save.
The Bullets victory means they will advance as the pool runner-up, with Cal Ripken champion Forest Hills, who face Dixie League champion Columbia County last on Saturday, advancing as the group winner.
