This time of year in Florida, you break into a sweat walking to the mailbox.
So you can imagine how it must feel practicing outside in a helmet and shoulder pads.
As part of a nationwide study on the effects of heat on college football players preparing for the season, USF players are being monitored closely by a team of scientists during fall camp.
The Tampa Tribune’s Mary Shedden wrote a story on the study that was published on the front page of today’s newspaper.
In case you missed it, click here to read about the study that includes Bulls LB Jacquian Williams.
Also, this from fellow Tribune reporter Adam Adkins:
—USF baseball recruits James Ramsay and Nick Gonzalez both are headed to college after being unable to agree to terms with the big-league clubs that selected them in June’s amateur draft.
Ramsay, an outfielder from Brandon, confirmed Monday that he will head to play for the Bulls. Ramsay was a 38th round selection by the New York Yankees. Leto coach J.J. Pizzio said late Sunday that Gonzalez, a left-handed pitcher, also was headed to school instead of signing with the Philadelphia Phillies, who selected him in the 30th round.
Teams have until midnight tonight to agree to terms with their draft picks.
Finally, I’m back in Vero Beach to cover the rest of USF’s fall camp here at Dodgertown.
The Bulls practiced this morning and return to the field at 7 tonight for their second two-a-day of camp.
The most notable development from this morning’s practice is that Evan Landi took some snaps at quarterback. Landi has worked exclusively at receiver but after Saturday’s scrimmage, USF coach Skip Holtz said he wanted to get Landi mentally ready to play quarterback should the Bulls need him.
