A few non-football USF notes from Saturday:
—The USF men’s basketball team, representing the U.S. at the Pan American University Championships in Brazil, lost to host Brazil in Saturday’s championship game.
Three days after defeating host Brazil, the Bulls suffered a 69-63 loss in Saturday’s title game.
Overall, USF won four of five games, including a 98-37 win over Paraguay in the seminfinals.
Walk-on freshman G Jordan Heath, the oldest son of Bulls head coach Stan Heath, filed a blog each day from Brazil for USF’s official website. Here is what Heath had to say Saturday:
“Of course, our main goal was to come home with a gold medal,’’ Heath wrote. “Unfortunately, we fell short of that one. However, we did have a great learning experience. We learned a lot about our team and what we need to work on.
“And there is no doubt that when we start back up again, we will be working on our flaws and attempting to perfect everything we possibly can. We also learned about the Brazilian culture. There is a piece of this experience that each of us will take back with us.’‘
—USF officially hired former University of Texas media relations specialist Jeremy Sharpe on Saturday.
Sharpe is USF’s new assistant athletic director of communications, replacing Chris Freet, who recently took a job at the University of Miami.
