Kenny Melendez of North Brandon Little League hit his second home run of the tournament, and he helped his team stave off elimination in the District 13 Major baseball All-Star tournament with a 5-3 win against East Bay National on Monday night.
Melendez went 3-for-3, adding a single and a double to his homer, as North Brandon rebounded from a 14-4 loss to South Brandon National on Sunday. North Brandon will face Belmont Heights Little League in another elimination game on Wednesday after Belmont Heights defeated East Point 5-2.
Four more teams face elimination on Tuesday, as Southeast faces Pinecrest and Bloomingdale American faces Progress Village. Both games start at 7 p.m. at North Brandon Little League.
Elswhere in District 13 All-Star play, Bloomingdale National sent home Belmont Heights 8-4 in under-11 baseball, while Progress Village beat East Bay National 9-3 in Junior baseball and Belmont Heights beat East Point 11-0 in senior baseball.
In softball, East Bay earned the right to face Bloomingdale in the Major softball championship with an 11-9 win against East point. East Bay and Bloomingdale will play on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
