Newsome junior running back Conner Powers left Friday’s game against Leto at the end of the first quarter and didn’t return. Wolves coach Kenneth Hiscock said Powers “tweaked” his right hamstring and would be evaluated after the game.
Powers left the field briefly after the injury to return to the locker room but returned to the sideline in the middle of the second quarter still in pads.
Powers is the Wolves’ leading rusher this season with 528 yards rushing and seven touchdowns in five games.
The Wolves were already down a running back as senior Darnell Tucker was on the sideline due to a high ankle sprain. According to Hiscock, Tucker is doubtful for next week’s district game against Bloomingdale.
The Wolves’ running attack was picked up by Vince Pennington, who rushed for two scores and 85 yards as Newsome defeated Leto 20-3.
