Newsome’s Boone picks Furman

Newsome senior defensive lineman Shawn Boone has verbally committed to Furman, Wolves coach Kenneth Hiscock said Thursday.

Boone recently picked up the scholarship offer from the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) program and committed after receiving a visit from Furman coaches on Tuesday.

Boone, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 228 pounds, finished with 54 tackles and three sacks from his defensive end position this season for Newsome.

“He was huge for us on the strongside of the defense,” Hiscock said. “He did an outstanding job.”

Boone hasn’t yet seen the Furman campus, Hiscock said, but has an official visit set for Jan. 15.
