Newsome hires Jackson as new softball coach

David Jackson has been named the new head softball coach at Newsome High School, athletic director Paul Lindstrom said.

Jackson, who was a volunteer coach at Bloomingdale and also coaches with the Brandon Fire travel softball team, replaces Dawn Vanella, who took maternity leave after the end of last season and coached the Wolves for three seasons. In July, the Wolves originally hired Shannon Johnson, who coached at Ocoee High School near Orlando, but Johnson’s husband was transferred out of the area.

Jackson, who teaches physical education at Newsome, takes over a Wolves team that was 14-9-1 and lost in the district semifinals last season.
