New York Rangers’ prospect Alexei Cherepanov died today after suffering a heart attack on the bench during a game in the Kontinental Hockey League in Russia. Cherepanov, 19, was a first-found pick of the Rangers in the 2007 draft and was in his second season with Avangard Omsk of the KHL.

And this video here, kind of chilling:

There was no ambulance on duty at the arena where Cherepanov’s Russian team, Avangard Omsk, was playing.
He asserted that emergency workers took too long to respond and didn’t have a defibrillator, a machine used to shock the heart. It was unclear how much time it took paramedics to respond.
“There are elements of negligence here,” Krasheninnikov said in televised comments.

You obviously do not know what happened there on that bench and that there was NO medical assistance available.....
I do not hate my country, I hate how it functions.
R.I.P. Alesha!

Katya, please take you hate for your home country somewhere else. This poor person has lost his life and all you can do is lay blame and attack others. Show some respect for his family as well as the rest of this team and organization. Its shouldn’t be that hard for someone to do. This is not the right time and place to bash. This could have easily have happened here. Read my previous post again. Alot of heart problems are not known until something happens. And even with all the right emergency equipment, death still happens alot. This is something I know first hand. And I actually know more about that country than you think.

Anne, what do you know about Russia....nothing. Medical is to blame plus the fact that you cannot ever get emergency care over there - it is non existant, I know. I lived there for 22 years. This boy could have been alive now if there was basic emergency care available!

Katya,
If he had no other problems with his heart, NO doctor would check for that (with an echo). So if all of his other test were normal, that test wo uld not be done. Alot of heart ailments are not diagnosed until something happens.
My heart goes out to his family, teammates, and the organization. What a terrible, tragic thing to happen. My thoughts are with you all.

My thoughts are with his family, teammates and the Ranger organization. I have been following Avangard Omsk and Alexei was playing so well. He was just named to the Russian National team yesterday and was second on the team in scoring behind Jagr, who I understand had taken him under his wing. Alexei called Jagr his Czech uncle. So sad for anyone at 19 to lose their life.

this is just so sad....
“This is a blow for the KHL,” added Larionov, who will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame next month. “We must learn from this. This cannot happen ever again.”
