The NCAA ruled on Thursday that Florida sophomore defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd will have to sit out one more game as part of a two-game suspension after it was found that he allegedly violated the “preferential treatment rules’’ by allegedly receiving $2,500 in cash over several months from an individual not associated with the school.
Floyd used the money for living expenses, transportation and other expenses, according an NCAA release.
He was given a two-game suspension that will be completed by not playing in Saturday’s contest against UAB. He must also arrange repayment of approximately $2,700 to charity before he will be eligible to compete according to a ruling by the NCAA’s student-athlete reinstatement staff.
In addition, he received impermissible benefits, including lodging and transportation, related to unofficial visits to several institutions. The NCAA noted that Florida was not one of the schools.
