The Rays optioned catcher Dioner Navarro to Triple-A Durham on Thursday afternoon and recalled outfielder Matt Joyce.
Navarro, 26, was hitting .210 with one homer and seven RBIs in 105 at-bats this season. The switch-hitting catcher has a career .250 batting average.
Joyce, a former Armwood High standout, was on the disabled list to start the season. Joyce was hitting .293 this season for Durham. In 92 at-bats, he had three homers and 12 RBIs.
