The Nautical Flea Market and Seafood Fest begins Friday at East Bay Raceway — south of Tampa off U.S. 41 — and continues through Sunday, according to organizer Mike Scanio.
The market includes used tackle and boating gear, as well as new and used boats, electronics, nautical art, teak furniture and more. There will be live music and lots of fresh seafood from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, Scanio said. Admission is $7. For more details, visit http://www.FLNauticalFleaMarket.com.
With lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s this weekend, flats fishing will revert back to the winter pattern. Residential canals, deep bends in coastal rivers and pot holes in the flats will be the places to look for redfish, trout and sheepshead.
Live shrimp is the can’t-miss bait. A DOA shrimp or a jig worked slowly will work for trout and reds.
Don’t overlook the power-plant outflows, including the one at TECO north of Apollo Beach, for cold-front fishing. Trout, mackerel, pompano, cobia and even a few young tarpon will be swirling around the basin, along with the thousands of cownose rays and hundreds of manatees enjoying the warm water.
This whole area is a slow-speed zone, heavily patrolled, so obey all the caution signs.
Jigs are the best all-around offering in the warm water coming out of the plants, but a 52-M MirrOlure can be effective if worked slow and deep. For cobia, a large plastic eel or a DOA Baitbuster mullet will do the job.
