Jerry Murrey has been named the new head softball coach at Gaither, athletic director Henry Strapp said.
Murrey replaces Heather Castle, who was hired as head coach in August. Former Gaither head coach Al Alcala, who stepped down from the position in 2008, will join the staff as a volunteer coach.
“I’m very excited,” Alcala said. “The first day of tryouts put a smile back on my face.”
Murrey and his new staff inherits a Gaither team that went 14-11 last season.
Castle, a Gaither grad, was hired in August to replace former USF catcher Laura Wolf, who stepped down from the position after one season with the Cowboys. Castle, guided King to a 4-16 record in 2009.

Ok well first of all Jerry Murrey whoever he is, is not the head coach of Gaither High School. Al Alcala is the head coach check out the schools website. Also, the reason they are not saying that Al Alcala is not the head coach is because he is under investigation from the Fire Marshalls office for manipulating his time sheets. This is why he resigned in the first place. Also why did they hire this Heather Castle person for only a couple of months and why did she resign. Sounds like there are a lot of problems at Gaither High School and starts with the Athletic Director!!
