Spent a long day at the FHSAA Soccer Championships, if you followed either of the live gamecasts we did on TBO.com yesterday afternoon as Tampa Prep and Berkeley Prep’s girls both advanced to their respective state finals, I thank you.
Get back online after the stories were written, and what do I find but a podcast featuring an interview with Rowdies head coach Paul Dalglish on MLS Talk. You can check out the audio here: http://bit.ly/b3D5T1
In other NASL news, St. Louis had a mass unveiling in the same manner as the Rowdies at their initial press conference, with nine players named as members of the new franchises’ inaugural roster.
More details on that can be found here.
The weather that has been playing havoc in the northeast has also affected the negotiations between the owners and players for a new MLS Collective Bargaining Agreement, so both sides have extended the negotiation period to Feb.25. You would hope that both sides will come to an agreement, since the last thing MLS needs right now is two sides too hard-headed to realize that a work stoppage could still kill the league.
And finally, from the excellent Dirty Tackle blog ... http://bit.ly/d1bkw2

That podcast with Dalglish is great! He even takes some shots at Beckham! As for the St. Louis signings, I think this shows how the Rowdies are doing things differently. All of the signing by AC St. Louis are former USL players. While the Rowdies have signed some former USL players, almost half of their squad has never played in the league. I think this says a lot in that they are going in a different direction than just sticking with the U.S. second division norm of recycling mediocre players.
