New England shocks Los Angeles, while San Jose grabs a late victory against Philadelphia in this weekend’s Major League Soccer action.

NEW ENGLAND 2, LOS ANGELES 0: Second-half goals by Marko Perovic and Sainey Nyassi gave the Revolution victory, handing the Galaxy just their second defeat of the season.

Perovic opened the scoring after getting a second bite at the cherry when his first free kick was blocked by a handball in the defensive wall. Perovic promptly curled his second chance into the left corner of the net.

Nyassi then capitalized on a rare mistake by Los Angeles’ Donovan Ricketts, poking home the rebound after the Galaxy’s goalkeeper couldn’t handle Shalrie Joseph’s shot.

SAN JOSE 2, PHILADELPHIA 1: A stoppage-time goal from Arturo Alvarez stole victory for the Earthquakes as the Union was unable to take advantage of its opportunities at PPL Park.

Philadelphia took the lead in the 14th minute as Fred ran onto a flick by Danny Mwanga before finishing low. Andrew Jacobson then hit the post from outside the penalty area two minutes later and Fred volleyed just wide.

San Jose tied the game in first-half stoppage time, Cornell Glen losing his marker to finish from close range from Chris Wondolowski’s cross. Mwanga had a pair of chances denied by Jon Busch, and San Jose caught the Union on the counter-attack as Alvarez finished coolly in the 91st minute.

TORONTO 1, COLORADO 0: Fuad Ibrahim scored the only goal of the game as the Reds maintained their undefeated record at BMO Field against the Rapids.

Both teams had chances to open the scoring, but it wasn’t until the 61st minute that Ibrahim struck, controlling a cross by Chad Barrett before shooting home from close range.

Colorado’s Claudio Lopez almost caught out Toronto goalkeeper Matt Frei with a clever chip that almost produced an equalizer, but Toronto held on for victory.

NEW YORK 0, D.C. UNITED 0: The Red Bulls extended their undefeated streak to five games, but were unable to find a way past Troy Perkins to take all three points at Red Bull Arena.

In a relatively uneventful game, Perkins was only tested twice by the Red Bulls attack. One of those came from a long-range free kick by Juan Pablo Angel, who should be joined later this week when the Red Bulls unveil Thierry Henry as their second Designated Player.

Bouna Coundoul was a little busier in the Red Bulls net and had to be sharp to save from Santino Quaranta early in the contest. But other than that, Coundoul wasn’t seriously tested.

COLUMBUS 0, HOUSTON 0: The Crew were unable to take advantage of New York’s tie as they too were only able to take a point from their match against the Dynamo.

In fact, Columbus was fortunate to escape with a point in a contest that saw Brian Ching record one of the worst misses of the season in the 24th minute. The game didn’t see too many other chances, Will Hesmer being forced into only one save for the Crew and Pat Onstad two for the Dynamo as both sides managed to combine for only 12 shots on goal.

CHIVAS USA 2, KANSAS CITY 0: The Wizards slide continued as the Goats earned their first victory since May 5 through a pair of goals by Justin Braun.

Braun took advantage of a pair of defensive mistakes by the Wizards, driving in on goal and finishing in the 56th minute after a clearance by Jimmy Conrad was blocked into his path. Another lackadaisical pass by Conrad allowed Braun to beat Shavar Thomas to the ball before producing a quality finish from 20 yards.

Kansas City has now lost three straight games, and sits 10 points outside the playoffs.

DALLAS 1, SEATTLE 1: David Ferreira scored an outstanding goal in the 87th minute to give FC Dallas a draw against the Sounders, who had appeared to be headed for their first win since a victory against New England on June 5.

Ferreira played a nice give-and-go with Heath Pearce on the edge of the penalty area, and lashed home a ferocious volley into the right corner of the net that Kasey Keller could do nothing about.

Seattle had taken the lead early, Fredy Montero heading home in the 14th minute for his sixth goal of the season. The Sounders were reduced to 10 men in the second half, though, as Miguel Montano retaliated after a poor challenge from Brek Shea, earning a straight red card. Dallas then pushed for an equalizer, Keller saving brilliantly from Ferreira, but the little Columbian was to find the equalizer and extend Dallas’ undefeated streak to five games.
