A late goal denied San Jose a big victory while preserving Los Angeles’ undefeated home record in Thursday night’s Major League Soccer action.
SAN JOSE 2, LOS ANGELES 2: Landon Donovan’s 90th-minute goal from inside the 6-yard box after San Jose goalkeeper Jon Busch failed to deal with a cross from Tristan Bowen earned the Galaxy a point they deserved after pulsating affair at the Home Depot Center.
The Earthquakes had taken an early lead, Bobby Convey scoring in the second minute after Cornell Glenn’s shot was saved by Los Angeles’ Donovan Ricketts. Los Angeles pushed for an equalizer, creating a number of chances in the first 15 minutes of the second half, and the pressure finally told in the 59th minute as Edson Buddle scored his 12th goal of the season.
San Jose retook the lead against the run of play, former Galaxy player Brandon McDonald scoring off the rebound of Ike Okpara’s initial shot. The Earthquakes, though, were unable to hold on as Donovan proved to be in the right place at the right time to earn his side a point.
