Real Salt Lake carries a nine-game undefeated streak into tonight’s game (9:30 p.m., ESPN2) at the Chicago Fire.
REAL SALT LAKE (8-3-3) VS. CHICAGO (4-4-5): RSL has gone 7-0-2 in its undefeated streak, including a 5-0 thumping of New England last week.
Chicago has only lost once at Toyota Park this season, but has more draws than wins (2-1-3) which has led to its middling position in the Eastern Conference. In fact, the Fire would currently be out of the playoffs if the season ended today. The Fire fell 2-1 against Columbus last weekend, and tonight will be without Patrick Nyarko with concussion symptoms while Brian McBride is doubtful after missing Tuesday’s practice with a quad injury.
RSL doesn’t have as many concerns and could see captain Kyle Beckerman return to the line-up. Although they lead the league with 27 goals in 14 games, RSL has also recorded four straight shutouts, which could challenge Chicago’s record of not having been shut out at home so far this season.
