ST. PETERSBURG Maybe it’s because he tries to put his players in a position where they can be successful or because he accentuates the positives as well as the negatives when critiquing their play or because he never, ever, never, ever rips them in the media, whatever the reason, major league players polled by Sports Illustrated picked Joe Maddon as the most popular manager.
