Former Middleton High track and cross country standout Amber Brooks, now a freshman at North Carolina Central University, has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week.
Brooks earned the award after finishing as the Lady Eagles’ No. 1 runner and third overall in a dual meet against ninth-ranked Duke University last weekend. It was the season-opening meet for NCSU and Brooks’ first race for the school. She covered the 4-kilometer course at Durham, N.C., in 15 minutes, 40 seconds.
Brooks and her NCCU squad race again Saturday in a cross country relay event against North Carolina A&T in Durham.
