After a follow-up exam with doctors Monday, Middleton junior receiver/quarterback Richard Benjamin has sustained no ligament damage to the knee he injured Friday night and is only expected to be out of action for a week, Tigers coach Alonzo Ashwood said.
It was initially believed Benjamin, who has multiple scholarship offers from Division I schools, had received a serious knee injury when he was carted off the field in Friday night’s game against Lennard. The injury came in the third quarter and resulted in a 30-minute delay while coaches and medical officials tended to him.
Saturday, however, Benjamin learned from his doctor doctor he had sustained a Grade 3 contusion of his right knee and quadriceps muscle. And Monday, an orthopedic doctor confirmed those findings. He’ll miss Friday’s road game against Spoto but should be back in action Sept. 30 for the Tigers’ home game against Lakewood.
