Former Middleton High cross country an track standout Amber Brooks, now a freshman at North Caroline Central University, captured first place in the Historically Black College and University Challenge at Saturday’s Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C.
Brooks turned in a personal best 5-kilometer performance of 19 minutes, 5 seconds, a 20-second PR. Brooks edged Nichelle Harris of Hampton University by two seconds and third-place Janessa Benn of North Carolina A&T by nine seconds. There were 106 entrants in the HBCU Challenge.
