Former Middleton High cross country and track standout Amber Brooks just keeps running faster and faster for North Carolina Central University.
As a true freshman, Brooks has been the Eagles’ No. 1 women’s cross country runner five straight meets and, most recently, eclipsed her personal best for 5 kilometers again. At the NCCU Cross Country Classic last weekend, Brooks lowered her PR to 18 minutes, 45 seconds to earn first place overall. Teammate Dreanna Wallace, a senior, was third in 18:52.
In her previous meet, Brooks earned Student-Athlete of the Week honors from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for the second time this season when she won the HBCU Challenge during the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C. There, she ran her previous best, 19:05.
