Forum: Talk Bucs | List: Bucs Free Agents
|
For those wondering what is going on with Bucs unrestricted free agent RB Michael Pittman, there is not much to report right now.
Detriot, Denver and St. Louis are the teams most interested in Pittman, but he said there have been no scheduled visits or contract talks yet. Tampa Bay will likely see what those teams offer Pittman before deciding whether to extend an offer.
Pittman, who plays running back and fullback, had two years remaining on his contract, but became an unrestricted free agent after playing a percentage of plays last season. He hoped there would be more serious interest in his services by now, but is optimistic a team will step up in the future.
Most teams are getting geared up for the NFL Draft, so if Pittman, 31, does not sign soon, he might have to wait and see if squads are able to select running backs they want, or add him for depth.
Pittman, a 10-year veteran, ranks fourth all-time in team history with 3,364 rushing yards (5,307 overall), sixth in team history with 284 career receptions (415 overall), and owns four of the 16 longest rushing plays in team history. His defining moment was rushing 29 times for 124 yards to lead Tampa Bay to 48-21 Super Bowl victory against Oakland during the 2002 season.
However, Pittman’s role was reduced after Tampa Bay drafted Cadillac Williams in 2005. He has started only in 10 of 42 games since 2005, and rushed for 286 yards and added 191 receiving yards last season.
With the emergence of Earnest Graham, signing of Warrick Dunn, resigning of Michael Bennett, possible return of Cadillac Williams this season, plus Kenneth Darby and Lionel Gates on the roster, Pittman has become the odd man out in Tampa Bay.

I like Pittman we need to keep him. He’s been a guy when we need him he’s been there for us. Let him return kicks or something. Let him try that out.
