The Rays open the 2012 season at 3:10 p.m. on April 6 at home against the Yankees, the first of two New York teams to visit Tropicana Field this season.

The Mets make their first trip since 2001 to their old spring training town for regular season games when they come calling June 12-14 during Interleague play.

The Braves also return to the Trop for the first time since 2006 with a three-game series May 18-19.

The Rays visit Washington, their first trip to Nationals Park, and Philadelphia in June during Interleague play.

The Rays will also have a rare Sunday off – Aug. 26 – because of the 2012 Republican National Convention held in Tampa.

“Venues throughout Tampa Bay have made themselves available to the Tampa Bay Host Committee in connection with potential events for the 2012 Republican National Convention,” Rays president Matt Silverman said. “We worked with Major League Baseball and the Tampa Bay Host Committee to ensure that Tropicana Field would be available for use on that Sunday and the following week.”

The Red Sox make their first visit May 16 and 17 for a two-game series. They return for three games July 13-15 and for four games Sept. 17-20.

In addition to the opening weekend series, the Yankees return for a pair of three-game series, July 2-4 and Sept. 3-5.

In addition to the four American League East teams, which make three trips each to the Trop, the Mariners (May 1-3, July 20-22) and the A’s (May 14-16, Aug. 23-25) both make two trips to St. Pete.

Other than Opening Day, game times have not been announced, but it doesn’t appear as if the Rays will return to the 6:40 p.m. start times for mid-week games in April and May.
