Armwood senior standout Khiry McQuay, a first team member of the Tampa Tribune’s all-Hillsborough county football and track teams, has moved to McDonough, Ga., and has enrolled at Eagles Landing High, his father, Leon McQuay, Jr., confirmed Friday.
The move was done for personal reasons, Leon McQuay. Jr., said, and Khiry is now living with relatives in McDonough, just south of Atlanta.
McQuay was a starting defensive back for the Hawks last season and led the team in interceptions with five. He also had 23 solo tackles. In track last spring, McQuay was one of the area’s top sprinters and would likely be the county’s top seed in both the 100 and 200 when the season begins later this month.
In track, McQuay owns personal bests of 10.80 (100), 21.70 (200), 50.93 (400) and, for the long jump, 20 feet, 6 inches.
According to his father, McQuay is currently running track for Eagles Landing. It is unclear, however, whether McQuay will attempt to play college football next fall or enter the professional baseball draft this spring.
McQuay’s little brother, Leon McQuay III, remains at Armwood, where he is a sophomore. Like his older brother, Leon III is also a track and football athlete.
