TAMPA —Rich McKay hasn’t done too poorly for himself since leaving the Buccaneers.
Tampa Bay’s former general manager was promoted Thursday to CEO of the Falcons, while retaining his title of president. McKay also serves as the chairman of the NFL Competition Committee and was actively involved this summer in negotiations on a new NFL labor agreement.
McKay bolted from the Bucs to the Falcons late in the 2003 season and served as Atlanta’s GM until owner Arthur Blank hired Thomas Dimitroff in 2008. Since Dimitroff arrived in Atlanta, McKay’s focus has switched from football operations to the business side of the franchise.
McKay is Blank’s point man with local officials in discussions on a new stadium in downtown Atlanta to replace the Georgia Dome, which opened in 1992.
