While the Mats Sundin saga continues to drag on and on, the Lightning might be the latest team to enter the fray.
A report out of Canada’s Globe and Mail suggested Monday night that the Lightning are the latest team interested in obtaining Sundin’s services - provided he is offering up those services.
While Lightning co-owner Len Barrie wouldn’t say if the team had contacted Sundin or his agent, Barrie didn’t try to hide Tampa Bay’s interest in talking to Sundin should he decided to play.
“If a player like Mats decides he wants to play, I would think there are 30 teams interested in him,’’ Barrie said Monday. “Right now, that’s all up to Mats to decide if he wants to play, but if he decides to play, we’ll talk to him. For Mats, it’s not all about the money.’‘

Sundin was in Toronto over the weekend for a charity hockey game to benefit the Right to Play organization. While he was there, he informed the media horde that he has yet to decide if he wants to play this year, let alone where he wants to play. TSN has been reporting that Sundin met with officials from both the Maples Leafs - his former team - and the Canadiens - the team which tried to trade for him at the trade deadline in February.
Then there is the standing offer from the Vancouver Canucks for $20 million over two years.
There has also been talk of the Flyers and Rangers being interested in Sundin.
By the way, that charity game in Toronto over the weekend also included Lightning co-owner Oren Koules as well as former Leaf and current Lightning veteran Gary Roberts.

Sundin would be a great addition to the Bolts. Wow, talk about veteran leadership. Bring him on.

Seems like a bit of wishful thinking. His agent said he already has it narrowed down to 2 teams if he comes back, one of which is Toronto. I’m guessing the other isn’t Tampa. He’d be a great second line center though.

Great media relations for this interest but totally unrealistic.
10 mil a year 9if you go by the Vancouver offer is nothing something we can afford. Heck we are quite a bit over where OK said they really wanted to be in terms of salary.
As much as I am excited about our Forwards we could use a vet D man or 2.

and just who would we be dropping to get him under the cap.
I would love to see this player in a tampa uniform, but I think the pool of talent we have right now, is pretty good too. I do agree maybe one more defensemen with at least 5-6 years of NHL experience would be nice, we are young, and listening to other young players in the league, the younger players who have not gotten to a cup, are all really hungry to get it, lets hope our group is this way and plays like it. With our talent now, I see no reason why we dont make the playoffs.
Sudins experience would be great, but I am not ready to give up Vinny L, Marty, Malone or Stamkos to get Mats. We are good at forwards for the next 3 years, and Mats would be here for one.

If you hold your breath on this one you’ll probably die.

no thanks, i’d like to the lads beef up the d, i like the the kids we have but….....we’re number 3 in the division on the blue line, only the thrasher’s are weaker. so we’re number 4 in the “weakest division ” (according to the experts) in the league. i’m keeping my fingers crossed.
go bolts!!!!!!!

There is no doubt about Mats abilities, definitely a big plus. However, I am more concerned about defense than forwards. I think we have a bumper crop there.

They get him it means St.Louis is gone

For those who are worried about the defense overly much, don’t forget that we got rid of a lot of minuses when we dealt Boyle and Kuba. Getting rid of them is like getting close to a 20 goal scorer in that we won’t be giving up all those goals.

Mike your crazy Boyle will be sorely missed!

Look at the record. As bad as the bolts were last year, they had a better record when Boyle was not playing than when he was.
Also, in what year was his +/- greater than 0? None of the above.
You are surely right. Boyle will be missed here - like a toothache is missed.
