Joe Maddon was a guest of Andy Freed and Dave Willis on Monday’s Rays Hot Stove show on WDAE 620 am.
Here’s what he said on the offseason:
“It was way too long. We got to get back to those busier, shorter offseasons.”
On the Rays opening at home for the first time in what seems like forever:
Maddon, noting the team’s 32-49 road record in 2009, wants to use the six-game season-opening homestand to build some momentum to start the season, “then take our act on the road.”
Maddon touched on a few other topics. He thinks catcher Dioner Navaro will have a good year, is eager to see his bullpen with closer Rafael Soriano and thinks new hitting coach Derek Shelton will have a huge impact.
