ANAHEIM—Rays manager Joe Maddon was tossed by second base umpire Angel Campos in the middle of the fifth inning for arguing the call by Campos that Evan Longoria was out trying to steal second base.
Longoria over-slid the base and was attempting to get back on the bag when he was tagged in the chest by shortstop Erick Aybar.
Longoria didn’t agree with the call. Maddon ran out to argue while the teams changed sides.
Yes, Maddon was tossed by an umpire named Angel at Angel Stadium.
Campos didn’t wait long to toss him, either.
It was Maddon’s 15th career ejection as Rays manager, tying him with Larry Rothschild, the team’s first manager.
It was the fourth time Maddon was ejected this season.
Of those 15, six have come against the Angels, his former team.
