Q: Roy or Ira, the Bucs need speedy playmakers to add a new dimension to the offense. With Cadillac’s injuries, would the Bucs look at Jonathan Stewart from Oregon if he is still available when they pick? He has power and speed and catches the ball out of the backfield well.—Joseph C. White, Port Charlotte
A: I think they’re interested in any back who’s a home-run hitter like Williams. They have a very versatile back in Earnest Graham but he’s not really a home-run hitter. If they don’t re-sign Michael Bennett or find someone like him in free agency they’ll definitely look to fill that need during the draft.

what does still with his Coach Gruden, contrator?

Good post Dex, almost makes sense. Not sure what a clitch is though? I’ve heard of a glitch in the matrix but never a clitch...huh.
Now back to football. I’m just saying that we don’t need to totally overhaul our receiving core. We need a clear cut #1 and after the best FA’s get resigned I don’t beleive that any of the rest can fill that role. If we’re being honest here, Galloway just doesn’t go up and make the tough catches anymore and really can’t stack up against most of the other #1’s in the league. To fill that role we’re probably gonna have to trade for a big name or draft high. Maybe someone like Fitzgerald. Adarius Bowman in the 2nd round could develop into that guy.

Cody,I think there is a clitch in the matrix, they wrote that we have a team full of #2 receivers-then they use your name as posting it.How weird is that?A team full of #2 receivers!Computers are funny sometimes.

Nice Post Cody. Glad to see im not the only BUC fan in Eastern Iowa. I agree, once our O-line matures a bit, that offense will really start to produce.

The more film I watch on these guys the more i’m really starting to like Rashard Mendenhall, RB from Illinios. He’s got a great burst hitting the hole and has the size (5’11” 225 lbs) to run up inside. He also had I think around 35 receptions this year so he’s good out of the backfield too.

We don’t need any more #2 receivers Dex, we have a whole roster full of them.
What would you have Gruden do, run a spread offense behind a young o-line that isn’t very good at pass blocking?
With the right personel and a solid o-line the west coast SYSTEM works fine. Worked pretty damn good for the 49ers back in the day I seem to remember.
Give it time, good God. Would you rather still have the offense that we had under Dungy? Now that was pathetic.

Well cody, the only receiver we drafted in the last five years that was productive is Clayton. Those receivers i named in my last posting,i said these guys could get down field faster.I never said these guys are deep field threat, but compared to what we have at that position, they would be an upgrade.
When Galloway was doubled team who did the bucs go to,who would find a way to get open. Those guys will be an upgrade because the only way we will get a top #2 receiver is via trade and i would not bet on that because the bucs only trade or sign washed up veteran. And by the way-Gruden so called system is nothing but shifting and going in motion, and after all that run a 4 yard out,get real-WHAT SYSTEM?

what about rice out of Rutgers he’s a power & home-run type back and he might be around in the second or third round of the draft.

If the Bucs could some how acquire the services Albert Haynesworth, Asante Samuels, Bernard Berrian, Devery Henderson draft DeSean Jackson, and Ray Rice I would be a happy Bucs Fan.....

So Dex, we should just release all of the young players that we’ve put time into coaching up and teaching the system to and sign every free agent out there and start over teaching a new system to them. I didn’t know that Hackett, Wilford, and Johnson were such threatening deep threats either. Just type the entire list of 2008 WR free agents and we should sign them all huh?
You’re right though that we shouldn’t give up a 1st round pick for Chad Johnson.

I agree with Brandon about Carnell being a wash. Dump him now and get rid of that over paid player. I vote for Ocho-Cinco WR from the Bengals. At 30, he’s still got speed and game and is a perfect fit for the Gruden Offense.

One thing we should not do is trade our #1 pick for Chad Johnson-i think that would destroy us-he is 30yr old, maybe a 2nd or 3rd pick.If you look at our dept at WR-who are some of these guys. Some of these guys should be released. We need guys that can get down field fast. When FA begin the bucs should move fast signing guys like D.J. Hackett,Ernest Wilford or Bryant Johnson. These type receiver will help us at the 3rd receiver or maybe a #2 receiver.

Brandon,i agree 100%-I wrote drafting Forte because lack of power in our backfield.Felix Jones never carried the load by himself so he could become another Cadillac. In my opinion Jamaal Charles will be the better pick for us if we’re going for speed-but after he run his 40 yd dash in the combines every team is going to look at him.Chris Johnson dance too much and Stewart is to much like Grahm but a litte faster. But,don’t be surprised if the bucs draft Stewart if he’s there and all the good CB are gone.In the second round the bucs should make a move for him if they want speed at that position-move down to get him.The only bad thing i read about him is he may be undersized. At 6’0 207,i’ll take for a pure break away back.

Jonathan Stewart is a lot like Graham in that he is a big back but he’s quite a bit faster. Stewart runs a low 4.4 40, and at 5’11” 225 pounds thats blazzing. In 2006 he led the nation in kick returns too. I think he could end up being a lot like Maurice Jones-Drew from Jacksonville. I’m not sure if he’ll fall to us though, especially if he has a good combine. Stewart would be extremely valuable at the 20th pick if he makes it there. Would give us a good chance to trade down and pick up more draft picks and still find value either later in the first or early in the second round.

Carnell Williams’ career was over BEFORE he injured his knee. Due to his east-west running style, lack of power, inability to hit a hole, extreme inability to catch the ball or be anything less than a liability in the passing game, his inability to stay healthy and the fact that he was not nearly as much a big play threat as advertised, he wasn’t a lock to return in 08 before he got hurt.
In round 1, Jonathan Stewart is intriguing but he is an awful lot like Graham, but Felix Jones and his electrifying speed and return ability in round 1 are nice, as is Chris Johnson of ECU in round 2. Even bringing back Warrick Dunn for 5-10 touches a game would be an asset to our offense if paired with EG.

I feel that we need one really good WR to add to the mix. We have Joey and 4 others who all add something to the mix. I’m more concerned with power and speed off the ball. From our DTs.
After DT, if we add at least one corner (through FA or a 1/2 rnd pick) we’re good on D.
I believe we need to aggressively per sue C. Johnson or J. Walker.
We also should spend a first day pick at RB. Bennett isn’t the answer as he is a 3rd down back who doesn’t get our blitz schemes.

How about this-drafting Forte- RB from Tulane in the later rounds for more power.Since the lost of Alsot we have no power back-someone who can wear a defense down.Keep Pittman at fullball,he was a fullball at the start of the season and release Bennett.Forte is 6’1 225 and can catch and have great feet in the middle like Alsot. The Saints punished us with McAllister up the middle and it wasn’t about speed-he wore our defense down.We could still use Pittman at running back, his legs are always fresh, put Darby at the 3rd string back.We will have 4 running, fresh legs-Askew at fullback,he can catch,so can Grahm,Forte, and Pittman.Variety is the spice is of life.GOD,I LOVE FOOTBALL!

Carnell will not be ready in ‘08. A torn patellar is usually career ending. Not something people rehab from fast or ever back to full strength. Carnell has a been a big bust, for the most part. My humble opinion is that we stick with Graham/Bennett/Pittman and concentrate on a new shutdown corner-franchise type guy and a WR that can make an immediate impact. Samuels is available soon and we have plenty of Cap Room. This was not a bad team.

Williams for the most part is done.I think he can still be a good #2 back. What we need is a back with power and speed,Turner would fill in perfectly. This will give us a legitimate threat and open up the play action which our slow receivers need. Our defense can use good cover corners not just zone cb’s so we can use the blitz more.Tampa 2 is still effective but who hasn’t seen it.Our DE’s are good, greg white is the next big thing.

I’d have to agree with James. Cadillac never has been a home run hitter for us like I thought he would. He doesn’t have the top end speed to out run DB’s. That 60 yard run against the Vikings was only because Clayton was running right beside him blocking somebody the whole time. Graham had as many 20 yard runs I think this year as Caddy had in the 3 years that he’s been here. Cadillac just can’t carry the full load in the NFL
I’m not sold on Micheal Bennett either. He wasn’t good enough for the Vikings, Saints, or the Chiefs. So why is he good enough to stay here. I’d still rather have Pittman, he’s much more versatile.

Hey guys- With the Bucs having a little play in their salary cap and the free agent market not being all that deep, I was wondering what you guys thought of the chances are in the Bucs pursuing K.C’s Jared Allen (assuming he doesn’t get resigned)to a serious offer. The defense has got to get a better pass rush(see Giants in S.B) to get to the next level. Allen seems like a good long time answer. He’s only 25 and would make a good compliment to Adams. If not Allen what plans do the Bucs have in getting more pressure on the Q.B Thanks - Kevin

Williams a homerun threat? Williams has never been a homerun threat. One time in three years did he hit a homerun. His first game against the Vikings. I think they should re-sign Bennett and concentrate on other areas. WR,Dline and corners.

I would say Stewart from Oregon would be a great choice. He’s not allot like graham as mentioned in someone’s previous post. He’s got track star quality speed, I don’t beleive Graham ever did. Did you see him toast the Bulls defense in his break away TD in the Sun Bowl, the guy has a set of wheels. May be a good fit for the Bucs.
