The hits keep coming for University of South Florida freshman OF Ryan Lockwood. On Monday, Lockwood was named a freshman All-American by Baseball America.
Lockwood, of Jesuit, has already earned freshman All-American honors from Louisville Slugger, the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association and Ping! Baseball. He also was selected as Collegiate Baseball News’ Freshman of the Year.
West Virginia’s Jedd Gyorko, who was chosen as Big East rookie of the year by the coaches over Lockwood, was a second-team selection by Baseball America. Lockwood ended the season on a 30-game hitting streak and finished with a .415 average.
