Considering there were two state championship squads from Hillsborough County—Armwood (Class 6A) and Plant (8A)—it’s not surprising there’s plenty of players from those those schools on the 2011 Associated Press all-state football teams.
But there’s alo several other athletes from Hillsborough and Pasco counties that made this year’s lists, from first team to honorable mention, in classes 8A, 7A, 5A, 3A and 2A. We don’t always put a lot of stock into these all-state teams and of course, much of it is subjective. But from the looks of this year’s squads, it appears some real work went into it by calling coaches, sports writers from around the state (including us at the Tribune) and doing research of those newspapers’ and recruiting web sites’ all-area teams.
Surely, not everyone will be pleased by this year’s teams. But here’s a link to the locals who made it, as well as the complete lists of all players in all classifications who made the teams: http://www2.tbo.com/sports/sports/2012/jan/08/locals-represent-all-state-football-squads-ar-345094/
