It’s been a long time since the King football team started a season 2-0. In fact, not a single player on the Lions’ current roster was alive the last time it happened.
Not since the 1990 has a King squad started a season with two consecutive wins (that season, King started 5-0), but the Lions (1-0) have a chance to do just that when they host Freedom (1-0) on Friday.
King bounced back from a tough preseason loss to Lakewood with a season-opening 28-12 win over Blake, getting the Lions’ 2009 season off on the right foot.
“We played well. The kids were ready to step up to the plate, and I liked that,” King coach Alvin Davis said. “I’m hoping we can do the same thing this Friday.”
Davis was impressed with the team’s passing game against the Yellow Jackets. Quarterback Greg Windham had two touchdown passes, one each to receivers Reese Sturgis and Derrick Bass. The coach also was especially pleased with the play of the Lions’ young offensive line.
While his team has an opportunity to leave its mark on the program, Davis isn’t going to use that as motivation this week. He’s more concerned with the Lions focusing all their attention on the Patriots, a team he believes the Lions match up well with.
“We just have to take it one game at a time,” Davis said. “I think if we can do that we can be a good ball club.”

Derrick Brooks is a good pick – he’s known as a very competent linebacker and is in fact a Super Bowl winner with his former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. (Tampa Bay triumphed over the Oakland Raiders in 2003 – dubbed the “Pirate Bowl.”) Brooks was released by his team after the 2008 season, in which they failed to reach the playoffs. Replacing Urlacher is not an easy task, but a player as skilled as Derrick Brooks is possibly worth some <a href=“http://personalmoneystore.com/Payday-Loans/no-Fax-Payday-Loans/ “>payday loans</a> to pick up.
