Links, football dates and a USF departure

I’ve heard from a few of you that if I don’t post a content item directly on the blog, you don’t see it. I’ll try and do a better job of posting links to all USF stories on TBO.com here on the blog.

As for those pesky issues related to commenting on the blog ... not sure it will be easier by football season, but I’m told sometime soon for those of you who continue to ask.

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, here are a couple of recent items not linked on the blog that hopefully you’ll find of interest:

++ If you own a hard hat, you might want to wear it when in the vicinity of USF’s Athletic Training Center. Click here to read more about the massive USF Athletics District that is now being built.

I took a tour of the sites last Wednesday—athletic director Doug Woolard wasn’t around, so I wore his hard hat—and was impressed at how much progress has been made in such a short time.

The place looks like a mess now, but by next summer, USF officials expect all the work to be completed if the weather cooperates over the winter.

++ If you haven’t seen a diagram of the new softball and baseball stadiums, click here to view them courtesy of USF.

Last but not least, a quick note:

++ If you happened to make it out to one of Skip Holtz’s town hall meetings in the spring, you probably saw Chris Freet, USF’s assistant athletics director for communications. He was the guy usually typing away on his laptop or smart phone as Holtz spoke, sending out Tweets and whatever else to keep his followers informed.

Freet spends most of his time behind the scenes, having served as USF’s primary media relations contact in the athletic department and social media guru for the past three years, but not for much longer.

Congrats are in order: Freet has accepted a job as associate athletic director at the University of Miami.

So, when the Bulls travel to Miami Gardens to face the Hurricanes on Nov. 27, Freet will be around, just not wearing the school colors he is accustomed to.

++ Speaking of football, here are some important dates upcoming:

Aug. 2-3: Big East Media Days in Newport, R.I. USF will be represented by Holtz, QB B.J. Daniels and C Sampson Genus

Aug. 4: Report date for USF Football preseason camp

Aug. 6: First practice of preseason camp

Aug. 14: USF Football Fan Fest and Media Day at Raymond James Stadium (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

Aug. 14: USF Day at the Tampa Bay Rays (First pitch at 4 p.m.)

Scott, since this is the Bulls blog, this is where I look first for stories about the Bulls. If it isn’t linked or referenced here, I probably will miss it. So if you link to it here, it will drive blog hits and also readership to your other stories, I would think. Also, I tend to comment on your stories here as opposed to in the main paper, since I am more interested in Bulls fans commenst and not those of the general populace, Gators fans, Canes fans, etc.

Hey Dan, thanks for the feedback and for reading the blog. I’ve heard the same sentiment from others, so I’ll try and make sure to post all links here when time allows.

Me, two, or three or four or five. I don’t read the Tribune very often, so if I’m going to read anything you write about the Bulls, it’s going to have to be here or be linked to here. I appreciate your doing this—probably haven’t known what I was missing.
