Lightning’s Lecavalier to undergo surgery, expected to be ready for camp (info on his poker tourney)

Lightning center Vinny Lecavalier will undergo a minor knee procedure in Tampa next week that will keep him out 3-4 weeks. That timeframe means he should be ready for the start of training camp on Sept. 17. Here is the official release from the team, which said the procedure is being done for maintenance and to tighten up some areas after Lecavalier reported to the tea feeling some discomfort in the left knee.
The Tampa Bay Lightning announced today that center Vincent Lecavalier will undergo a minor arthroscopic procedure on his left knee on Tuesday, August 24 in Tampa. The procedure will be performed by Lightning Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Ira Guttentag at the Florida Medical Clinic.
The recovery time will be 3-4 weeks and Lecavalier is expected to be ready to participate in the Lightning’s training camp, which begins Friday, September 17.
Speaking of Lecavalier, his annual celebrity poker tournament will be held at Derby Lane on Sept. 10 and features professional players Annie Duke and Joe Sebok as well as other Lightning players and local celebrities. Here is the full info, including how to participate:
The game is on once again as more than 40 sports and entertainment celebrities are set to go “all in” for charity at the UltimateBet.net Vincent Lecavalier Celebrity Poker Classic on September 10 at Derby Lane in St. Petersburg. Lecavalier, his Tampa Bay Lightning teammates and UB.net pros Annie Duke and Joe Sebok will be joined by a host of local and national celebrities for the Texas Hold’Em tournament, which benefits the Vincent Lecavalier Pediatric Cancer and Blood Disorder Center at All Children’s Hospital. Since its debut in 2006, the Vincent Lecavalier Celebrity Poker Classic has raised more than $350,000 for the center.
Participants will compete for a $100,000 total prize pool as well as progressive celebrity bounties, so it pays to knock out the stars. Don’t sweat the cards, though, as there are unlimited $100 re-buys during the first hour of play to guarantee you get to enjoy the action. Celebrities will play for a $20,000 Last Celebrity Standing payday to be donated to their favorite charity.
Tournament spots are going fast as individual buy-ins start at only $550 and all entries include a boot camp clinic with 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Jerry Yang.
A $750 buy-in earns you a seat for a once-in-a-lifetime boot camp clinic with Duke and Sebok, and the clinic with Yang. Sponsorship packages including the poker seminars with Duke and Yang, as well as a private lunch with Duke, are also available.
