Lightning salary cap numbers

There’s been an awful lot of questions regarding Tampa Bay’s salary for next season as well as the salary cap figures. Here’s what I’ve been able to put together at this point, thanks to NHLSCAP.com.
This is a chart that I’m working on for tomorrow’s paper and will have to be updated depending on what the rest of the day brings about, but it’s a good reference point:
Tampa Bay’s payroll has skyrocketed in the past couple of days to unprecedented levels for the Lightning. So just where does Tampa Bay stand in terms of the $56.7 million salary cap on the eve of free agency opening. Players listed are either under contract and finished last season on the Lightning roster or new acquisitions:
Player; 2008-09 salary; cap hit
Vinny Lecavalier; $7.1 million; $6.875 million
Dan Boyle; $6.7 million; $6.7 million
Marty St. Louis; $5 million; $5.25 million
Ryan Malone; $7 million*; $4.5 million*
Vinny Prospal; $3.5 million*; $3.5 million*
Filip Kuba; $3 million; $3 million
Gary Roberts; $1.2 million*; $2 million*
Jeff Halpern; $2 million; $2 million
Jussi Jokinen; $1.875 million; $1.8 million
Brad Lukowich; $1.65 million; $1.566 million
Michel Ouellet; $1.3 million; $1.25 million
Shane O’Brien; $1.025 million; $950,000
Paul Ranger; $950,000; $933,333
Mike Smith; $950,000; $950,000
Steven Stamkos; $875,000*; TBA
Matt Smaby; $825,000; $791,667
Alex Picard; $750,000; $800,000
Mike Lundin; $737,500; $687,500
Karri Ramo; $725,000; $658,333
Jason Ward; $700,000; $675,000
Nick Tarnasky; $525,000; $525,000
Marc Denis^; TBA; $1 million
Totals; $48,387,500; $46,411,833
*projected numbers
^bought out of final year of contract
Note: Does not include restricted free agent Ryan Craig, who made $850,000 last season.

Bear in mind that Halpern’s salary won’t fully count against the cap. While he is on injured reserve the salary doesn’t count towards the cap hit. Once he comes off it will but there is no way his full $2 million will count this year.

i don’t know everything about how the cap works but why does Gary Roberts have a 2 million dollar cap hit when he signed a one year deal with a salary of $1.2 million - I know this contract had bonuses incentives but I thought that was applied later on.

Two quick clarifications, Halpern’s injury gives Tampa Bay cap relief only if they go over the $56.7 salary cap, which I don’t expect to happen. Also, in regards to Roberts, his potential full bonus incentive numbers are counted against the cap whether he attains those bonuses or not, which is why his base is $1.2 million but cap hit is roughly $2 million (again, those are estimates until they are released)

i don’t see arthyukin’s numbers up there, i was curious to know what his cap hit will be..based on our offseason shopping list, it looks more and more like oullet or jokinen will be overpaid 3rd or 4th-line guys, so i can see one of them being a cap-relief opportunity and trade bait to fill out norfolk and replenish some of these draft picks we’re throwing around like gasparilla beads….

Chris Gratton?

Artyukhin is not listed because officially he hasn’t signed, so the salary numbers on his deal have not been made known. His deal should be announced on Tuesday.
Suggest removalAs far as Gratton is concerned, he’s not under contract and will be unrestricted as of Tuesday.
