No word yet on whether this is because of injury (Mattias Ohlund and Ryan Malone are not skating this morning) or if it’s a reward for Jones, who is enjoying a strong season with Norfolk.

From the team:

The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled center Blair Jones from the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League, Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton announced today.

Jones, 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, has played in 24 career NHL games with the Lightning, recording a goal and three points. His most recent NHL game came on December 22, 2007 versus the Carolina Hurricanes. Jones has played in 225 career AHL games with Norfolk and the Springfield Falcons, recording 45 goals and 136 points.

A native of Central Butte, Saskatchewan, Jones has played in 25 games with the Admirals this season, recording six goals and 19 points. He leads the team in assists and plus/minus rating with a plus-10 while also ranking second in points. Last season Jones set a Norfolk record for shots on goal in a season with 271, good for third in the AHL.

Jones played his junior hockey in the WHL with Moose Jaw and Red Deer. He played in 249 junior games, recording 61 goals and 112 assists. Jones was selected in the fourth round, 102nd overall, of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
