Lightning make another minor trade
Posted Mar 4, 2009 by Erik Erlendsson

Well, another trade came down the pipeline late in the day involving the Lightning and it’s a bit of a head scratcher to me, but here is what Sportsnet is reporting:
Tampa Bay sent G Olie Kolzig, D Jamie Heward, D Andy Rogers and a fourth round draft pick to Toronto for minor league defenseman Richard Petiot
I guess all I can say about that one is a major salary dump on Tampa Bay’s part.

Everything this ownership does is a head scratcher to me….Lawton is such a RAT!

Your kidding me right? You call THIS a MINOR trade? They dump 2 defensemen, one of which is a prospect, they dump Kolzig which I dont really care about, AND they get rid of a 4th round pick. All for whom? A defenseman who has played 2 games AND has had major knee injuries. This is retarded.
BTW, a MINOR trade if you are talking about the lightning getting a MINOR league player. NOT a minor trade when you talk about the assets the lightning have lost. Honestly, just throw your laptop out the window, break every pen and pencil you own, and burn every piece of paper. Then call your college professors and apologize for your awful reporting.
MINOR!? Give me a break.

Kolzig… fine. Heward… Ok. But Rogers? He was a young, up-and-coming blue-liner. I’m getting my gloves and back-brace ready, the Lightning are gonna need a hand when they’re moving out of the Forum.

I can’t decide if this is worst then practically handing one of our best defensemen this season to the Panthers… Thank you GM Sleeze.

Ok Erik. I was harsh. Sorry.
Lawton I hope you read these blogs. Your a disgrace to the league and to the lightning. You were a terrible first round pick and to top THAT off, you SUCK as a first year GM. I hope this is YOUR LAST YEAR.
Owners, if you want to rescue this team. FIRE Lawton. Your season ticket sales will plummet and you will LOSE your rear ends in revenue. This yokel doesnt have a clue what he is doing and you need to ACT NOW before the lightning are destroyed.

Jacob, calm down man. The purpose of this trade was to get rid of salary. Both Kolzig and Heward aren’t expected to play another game this season due to their injuries. As for Rogers, the kid was given a chance but was bit by the injury bug for the majority of his professional career and wasn’t able to get to his potential. Do I approve of the way Lawton and the two cowboys have done this season? Of course not.

Talk about destroying a former Stanley Cup team? Boyle, Sarich, Kuba and Picard dealt for nothing. Meszaros a bust. Diddly in return for Brad Richards. Smith and Halpern oft injured while Jokkinen is waived. Defenseman Eminger with good puck handling skills dealt, again with nothing in return. Recchi unloaded for two players who have never produced. To top it off we give up four players to get another oft injured player in Richard Petiot. The Lightning are going in reverse real fast!

I knew we were in trouble right out of the gate with this ownership group. All we heard was how much money they had made in Hollywood, but when the time came to ante up they couldn’t do it. That is never a good sign. Is there enough players left on the team to even put three lines together???

I know. I am calm. I do realize it was salary dump, but all this BS is getting to me. I was there at the VERY first press conference in Tampa which was the Jersey unveiling. Espo named our youth hockey team the Jr. Lightning. My mom is good friends with Carrie Esposito (selivanov). I was at the first summer practice with all the new entry draft bolts; Bradley, Ramage, etc.
Heck, I even practiced with them during the summer when I was 16 and 17 and constantly had Kyle Dykhouse (sp) hitting me. When I was in the Marines the only thing that kept me sane was following the team during their crappy years. I am passionate about this team and it pains me to see how this GM has destroyed it from within.

Correction: Karl Dykhouse not Kyle Dykhouse

Thank you Mr. Lawton…you just made my decision to renew alot easier.

are you people kidding me? bucs and bolts fans are a bunch of whining little babies..my god the bolts are one of the worst teams, we traded old players and got young, recchi was traded for a young stud d-man(1st rd pick) look him up,and a possible solid forward(second rounder).eminger(who has been solid)was dealt for a guy with just as much upside and is a little bigger not to mention is an American.Kolzig,Heward and Rogers were salary dumps for a guy who will never play in Tampa and his contract is up at the end of the year, not to mention Rogers has had a ton of problems in the minors,do some research instead of just ripping the management and for gods sake forget dan boyle hes long gone

Todat was a day to try to get youth and really DUMP salary. Maybe the Coach did not have these players in mind for next year so they are trying to not lose so much in the 1st year. Looks like the Maple Leafs somehow helped them out, cannot figue this deal for the Leafs at all. Lets see what happens with all the NEW players and where they will go this Summer! Still am a BIG backer of the BOLTS and we can see new owners needed to get some payroll gone. GO BOLTS!

Correction Jacob
Karl Dykhuis

hockey fan, Tampa has everything correct!! Not going anywhere with the current players so lets try someone that fits the Coaches play and ideas.
Suggest removalGIVE the NEW players a chance! Just want to know if ant new players will be in Tampa for practice tomorrow and who may play over the weekend? They are trying to build around the CORE players for next year. Not knowing the salary cap may be, V4,26 Malone and Prospal they have about 28-30 Million towards CAP space and need to have 20- 25 Million left for 18 more players! They made GOOD moves today. hockey fan, Tampa you are RIGHT on!!!

they did this to shed salary so they could get revenue sharing help. which is funny from an organization that claims to be doing well financially.
did anyone see recchi’s interview with TSN where he crapped on lawton for not keeping in contact with him and letting him know what is going on with his future. then len barrie did an interview with the score and crapped on lawton for how he’s handled everything.
this organization is such a joke.
Suggest removali thought my leafs were a disgrace, but this team/organization takes the cake.
Por (sam) on March 04, 2009 (Suggest removal)
i also expect that they shed salary so they can go out and sign every free agent to absurd contracts just like they did last year. then come next years trade deadline they’ll try to trade the entire team again and start all over.
good luck lightning fans.

Petiot is a big punishing player, known more for his momentum-changing hits than his scoring. He is a stay-at-home defenseman who, along with teammate Mark Stuart, forms one of the best tandems of hard hitters in all college hockey. Petiot is a good skater for his size and excellent in the corners.
Suggest removalAs was reported from Manchester-Boston and LA Kings reported Petiot has a legitimate future as an NHL defenseman for the Kings if he continues his development. He plays a solid defensive game and plays with a physical edge. His size and strength, combined with his mobility, will make him an intimidating force on the blueline.
