That’s what the Tennessee Titans were thinking when they obtained a restraining order in an attempt to keep Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones from professional wrestling. Trust me, they were not worried about their financial investment should Pacman be injured – they are hoping to reduce the visibility of his side-show. Word is that Pac and the Titans reached an agreement that will allow him to call himself a professional wrestler as long as he never actually wrestles. That works. He essentially does the same thing in calling himself a professional football player.
In other Titan news, Head Coach Jeff Fischer sat star QB Vince Young out of the team’s first pre-season game for violating an unspecified team rule. First of all, was this punishment or reward? Secondly, what was the team rule Young violated? I bet Vince ordered pay-per-view of Pacman’s wrestling debut into his dorm room.
Rumor has it that the Chiefs’ negotiations with Larry Johnson are heating up in hopes to bring their star running back into camp. Let’s see… they got a look at their offense struggling against the Cleveland Browns the other night and, voila! Yep, L.J.’s 1800 yards and 17 touchdowns on an NFL record 416 carries last season will come in handy… especially since the team has no QB. Look for L.J. to get a new contract in the coming days, and 1000 carries this season.
I’ll tell you one hold-out who needs to get into camp if he doesn’t want to lose his job – Patriots DB Asante Samuel. Randall Gay looked tremendous in Samuel’s spot and word out of camp is ‘Asante Who?’ You should learn from history, Asante: the Patriots don’t negotiate with DB’s who think the world revolves around them.
Don’t look now, but Joey Harrington looked downright respectable in his dress-rehearsal debut as the Falcons starting signal-caller. Of course it will take more than pre-season action to sell me on Joey. I still expect D.J. Shockley to be leading this team to its 5-11 record this year.
Here’s a Pigskin Preacher prediction for you: McCown will be the starter on opening day! Relax Bucs fans. I’m talking Josh McCown, starting for the Raiders. Even if he signed today – which he won’t because he’s still sleeping in a hammock in Alabama – JaMarcus Russell is months away from starting. Daunte Culpepper is said to be having troubles with the Raider playbook, and his play during this past weekend’s game confirmed that. Andrew Walter…well, come on… it’s Andrew Walter.
