Plant High’s Doug Letson is in third place following the second round of Florida’s 54th Boys Junior Golf Championship, but the Panthers’ rising senior will have some work to do Wednesday to make a run at the tournament title.
Letson shot even par 72 Tuesday at the Interlachen Country Club in Winter Park to give him a two-round total 139, which is six strokes back of the leader, Lake City’s Blayne Barber, in the boys 16-18 division.
Plant City’s Kyle Martin is the only other local in the top 20 following two rounds of stroke play. Martin is tied for 17th after shooting 76 on Tuesday, giving him a two-round total 148.
Among the other locals to make the cut (made at the top 50 players plus ties) Mitchell’s Kenny Cavender (tied for 36th) and Jesuit High teammates Jack Twomey (tied for 36th) and Trent Silver (tied for 41st), Clearwater Calvary Christian’s Michael Baskovich (tied for 36th) and St. Pete Catholic’s Devin Hernandez (tied for 41st).
You can find the complete results of the tournament here.
The final 18 holes in the 54-hole event is scheduled for Wednesday at Interlachen.
