Let’s Start ‘Shootin’ the Bull’ Around Here

The polls are closed. The votes are in. And thankfully, we won’t need Katherine Harris to come out of retirement to sort out a recount.

In the end, Shootin’ the Bull claimed the title in the first name-this-USF-blog contest in the long history of The Tampa Tribune and TBO.com. I’d like to thank the millions of folks out there in cyberspace who took the time to cast a vote. OK, that might be stretching it a little, but thanks to those who participated.

Hopefully this is just the start of our relationship here on our own little sports blog. We’ll get the official new name with a little logo slapped on the blog sometime in next few days. I’m heading off to Rutgers this afternoon for the big game tomorrow, so please be patient.

Based on the voting done in the comment section of the original blog post listing the choices, here is the final tally for our five choices:

Shootin’ the Bull—79 points
The Bull Session—66 points
Full of Bull—49 points
The Herd Huddle—47 points
The Bulls Brigade—23 points

Special mention must go out to dalatorr, who I plan to hire as my campaign manager if I ever decide to run for public office. He loves the name BullShot, as did JoeCole, and it’s a clever little title ... but since we needed at least a couple of words in the title, it didn’t make the final cut.

Also, to SteveStacy, I promise there will be no endorsements of actually shooting a Bull posted on this blog. We certainly don’t want to get PETA after us. The title is pretty self-explanatory and as our little blog grows in popularity (I’m taking the glass-half-full outlook), hopefully this will be one of the first places on the Internet that we’ll all come to start ‘Shootin’ the Bull’ about USF athletics.

Finally, the most important part of our little contest: who won the lunch on me and the $25 gift certificate from footballfanatics.com? His/her username is Buller64, whose entry The Bull Session was a strong second in the final voting.
