And then there were three.
Add Leto to the list of schools in need a new head football coach. Coming off a 2-7 season, Hugh Dehnert is no longer the Falcons head coach.
“It’s not advertised yet, but we are looking for a new head coach,” Leto athletic director Lauren Otero said.
Leto becomes the third program in Hillsborough County with a head coaching vacancy this offseason. Alonso’s Mike Heldt and Jesuit’s Joe Ross stepped down last week.
In his four years as the Falcons head coach, Dehnert compiled a record of 10-29 and helped several players get to the next level. This season, Leto enjoyed visits from some of the most high profile college coaches in the country who were recruiting running back Jeremy Deering.
When Dehnert arrived in 2006, he inherited a program with a combined record of 9-51 through the previous six years, including two winless seasons. Leto hasn’t had a winning season since they advanced to the regional finals and finished 9-4 in 1999.
Otero said they are in the process of getting the job opening posted with the county.
“We’d like to have someone in place my mid-February,” Otero said.
