Leto rising senior baseball player Nick Gonzalez has verbally committed to USF, Falcons coach J.J. Pizzio announced Saturday.
Gonzalez was Leto’s top pitcher as a junior in 2009. The left-hander finished 4-2 with a 1.98 ERA, striking out 55 in 42.1 innings pitched. Pizzio said Gonzalez made his commitment last week.
Pizzio said Gonzalez is spending this summer playing for the Ohio-based travel ball club Midland Braves. Pizzio said Gonzalez recently made his first appearance for Midland and struck out eight in four innings of work, touching between 88-90 on the radar gun.
Gonzalez joins a 2010 Bulls recruiting class that already holds commitments from Alonso left-handed pitcher Thomas Dorminy and Brandon outfielder James Ramsay, two of Hillsborough County’s top players.
