Pick a sport, any sport, and chances are Coach Salty Burns had a hand in it. With a vast knowledge of a variety of sports and a passion for teaching, a lot of Tampa boys and girls became better athletes because of Burns.
The Tampa native and former Chamberlain, Jefferson and Leto head football coach passed away on Wednesday at the age of 83. Burns also coached Plant’s boys basketball team to a 1958 state championship.
