NEWARK - Center Vinny Lecavalier is out for the year after the team announced Thursday that the four-time All-Star will undergo surgery on his right wrist. It’s the same procedure Lecavalier was scheduled to undergo last season before he injured his shoulder.

Maybe now everyone will stop complaining about how he hasn’t been trying and shouldn’t be the captain. Oh who am I kidding, that will never stop.

Best of luck on the surgery Vin. Rest up during the off season so everything can start fresh next year.

could this be the lead up to a trade??? They seem to like doing things this way. Others are reporting teams like L.A. are interested and have the players and draft picks available that the lightning may be looking for. I am sure July 1, can not come fast enough.

This also may be a way for the lightnign to justify losing the last games to try and get the higher draft pick, though I think colorado has already started their lose out campaign, and we may wind up with the 3rd or 4th pick this year.

These last few home games are going to be brutal for the fans.

My only question is why did they wait so long?  It has be obvious for some time that the team was going nowhere, so why not have Vinny take off before now for the needed surgery.  There was nothing to be gained by having a player play in pain, particularly when it seriously impairs the player’s ability to contribute.

V4….Good Luck!  Rest up and come back better than ever next season.  The bolts would be absolutely crazy to trade him.  Not only does he have the ability to be in the top 5 in the league, he puts warm bodies in Forum.  Do not break up a great nucleus with M26, S91,R12, V4 and V20 (who is due to have a good year next year).  Tinker with the 3rd and 4th lines….shore up the defense, condition these guys from day one and we will make the playoffs next year.

I agree completely that this has to do with the way he has been playing.  Just think of when his numbers started to drop and this is right around the time of his first injury.

Bolts Rule!!!...There are a few people on here that I recognize since you all post a lot and your one of them, but please don’t start the rumor mill going again.  This is a surgery and nothing more.  He has had multiple surgeries before so we know its ligit.  Wish you all the best V4

Thank you Ryan!! I’m sick of reading the baseless trade “rumors” about Vinny. Instead of looking at what he has done the last 10 games or 10 weeks, how about checking out what he has done the last 10 YEARS!!! This whole season has been an anomaly and shouldn’t be used to judge any of the proven veterans. I’m sure I’m not the only fan who appreciates V4 and what he has meant to this team. Anybody else think we should show him a little loyalty and keep him for the life of his contract? Good luck Vinny. Get well soon!

I for one appreciate Vinny and also think the Lightning would be making a mistake by trading him (I don’t think they will)  I wish him well with the surgery!

I ask the same question as Bolts Fan.  With Lawton running the show, one always questions the motives behind every move.  And for VL being the face of the franchise, why jeopardize the franchise and his career.  Similarly, to Bolt’s Fan, why wait this long into the season when it has been over 2 months when the fate of the Lightning for this season has already been decided. Dumb dumb dumb….And Brittany, we have a right to complain.  We pay top dollar to see a product that we expect to give 100%, perform 100% and deliver 100%.  If you are one to take excuses and accept less than 100%, then go watch Bowling

there’s a very good possibility vinny’s played his last game as a member of the tampa bay lightning.

well good luck in montreal and/or LA vinny!!!!

Wow sam…you decided to visit the lowly Tampa news website and post a stupid comment?  I guess Toronto is more boring than we thought.  I guess when your team is not making the playoffs you have nothing better to do…oh wait, we aren’t and yet we still won’t bother to waste our time messing with the stupid Maple Leafs.

If Vinny wanted to he in Montreal, he could have done that himself several times.  Obviously, he likes being in the Bay area and prefers not to play in Montreal.

Beyond that, the ownership/management would be idiots to trade either him or Marty to anyone.  I’m not saying that these guys aren’t idiots, but if either player were traded there would be plenty of room in the Forum for echoes because there would be a notable lack of fans to pay for the seats.

If this is an injury he has had, why did they wait until now to do this surgery, he has been playing with the injury and we have potentially been eliminated from the playoffs since February. That is poor management.

As far as trade rumors go, check out more websites that this one, Erik tells us what he knows, but alot of the stuff is happening not here in Tampa, and I dont mean the canadian press, they are all convinced Montreal will have him.

I for one will be glad to see July 1, and Vinny will be a Bolt for life. But this is a BUSINESS. All say it if they don’t win, tickets don’t get sold.

season ticket holders make up 12k seats the other 8k seats need to be filled. winning will fill the seats.

News some of you might appreciate.  Although I cannot verify or validate the legitimacy and accuracy, it is still news to me.  Lawton is on his way out.  Had drinks with a few SPTimes Forum folks last night.  The scuttlebut is Oren is going to win this battle.  Word is Oren went ballistic when he heard of VL’s issues and just plain old took off on Lawton that his tirade resonated in the deep recesses of the Forum.  A diatribe followed about all the missteps and bumblings that Lawton made all season.  Accordingly, Barrie just shrugged his shoulders.  Take if for what it’s worth.

HockeyFL, I hope what you heard is accurate.

Bolts Rule!!!, Vinny won’t be going anywhere, and if he ever did, with what we would get in return if done right that is of course if what HockeyFL says is true may be a possibility depending on who the preceding GM would be, will please the fans in the long haul.

But consider this, Montreal pretty much took themselves out of the trade debacle by the owner talking of a sale. Also, if a simple surgery on a wrist may deter people from wanting to make a deal as you never know if in fact he’ll be ready for next season. Lotta risk for such a big contract.

If the team, with Vinny and Marty, plays with the kind of scratch that Toc is talking about, they will be worth watching, even with the occasional loss.  I remember Toc when he was a player and I think what he is going for is a team load of players that play with the intensity that he played with.

Don’t forget that Vinny has been playing for two years with the sore wrist.  When he is sound, he can play with all the scratch that Toc wants.  Look at the number he did to Iginla in the first game of the Cup final and totally negated Iginla as a factor in that series.

If they play like that, the people will come.

Justin, I agree that we would probably never get what is deserved for a vinny trade. Montreal doesnt have that many under contract for the next year and anyone who trades for vinny gets a long contract and a high dollar amount (which he is worth when he plays like he can).It is a lotta risk for a high dollar contract especially when the talk is the salary cap coming down in 2010-2011, scuttlebutt is teams with players on 8-9-10 million contracts will be hurting to put out a solid team, instead will have 1-2 stars and the rest filled with 3rd line players.

Bolts Fan, I agree I would love to see this team play old time agressive hockey. With Vinny and Marty Healthy it would be great to see.

Given Toc’s background and what he has been saying when players didn’t stand up, like when Ruutu undercut Craig’s knees or when Vinny had to fight when Ramo was run, I think that there will be quite a few players on this roster that won’t be back, particularly the baseball players (no hitters).  That should make for a team that’s just fun to watch.

Look people vinny isnt going anywhere. Why would the lightning trade him to montreal now. Considering at the deadline we could of gotten alot more for him. Cus now montreal has all these expiring contracts, he is the face on this franchise, and the lightning know that they wont get the value back. he is one of the best 2 way forawrds in the league. I dont see Ovechkin playing hard on defense are playing on his team’s penalty kill. Get Well Soon Vnny!!
