Leavitt: ‘We didn’t have those kinds of [violent] problems with Mike’

During his time at USF, running back Mike Ford had his share of trouble.

However, former Bulls coach Jim Leavitt always remained committed to Ford and in their final game together—USF’s 27-3 win over Northern Illinois in the International Bowl—Ford rushed for a career-high 207 yards and earned MVP honors.

Leavitt hasn’t seen or spoken to Ford since the Sarasota native was dismissed from USF’s football team in March—two months after Leavitt was fired. He was disappointed to hear about Ford’s arrest in Saraosta on Tuesday for a misdemeanor battery charge and hopes his former player can overcome his latest setback.

“I’ve always thought a lot of Mike,’’ Leavitt said Wednesday. “What happened down there, I don’t know. I wasn’t there. We didn’t have those kinds of [violent] problems with Mike when we were at USF.’’

Sounds like Leavitt took a little jab at the program with his statement.  Leavitt has a short memory, as he had problems with student-athletes on his team in the past.  It’s not like this was the first time something like has happened….

Hey Vince, thanks for stopping by…In fairness to Leavitt here, his response was to question about nature of Ford’s arrest…

I’ve had a few others e-mail or Tweet with same sentiment as you, but I didn’t take it as a jab when he answered, just a reference to that while at USF, Ford had issues, but not of the voilent kind…

anyway, just trying to add a little context.
