Leave Dan Boyle a departing message

As I sit here twiddling my thumbs (or some other appendage onto this computer keypad), I’d figure I would give you guys an exclusive forum to let Dan Boyle know you feel. I’ve been reading the comments in some of the earlier posts so I know this is a passionate topic for everybody.

Dan reads this blog, as evidenced by him calling my yesterday to set the record straight.

So if you feel so inclinded and want to leave Dan a note of encouragement (or discouragment, this is Independence Day after all and we are provided with the right to free speech), do that below. But please, let’s keep this thread on topic and leave other comments for the other topics.

Have fun, and keep it clean!

My husband and I were stunned and saddened with the news of you being traded. We try to understand the nature of this profession, but we know we’ll definitely miss you not being in the Forum.
Thank you for everything you’ve contributed to this organization, you’ve touched our hearts, and we will forever keep you in our thoughts.
Take care and best of luck in your new team.

hi Dan, we’ve been coming to Palm Harbor on holiday for the last few years from England, u.k. and the highlight for me has definately been catching an ice hockey game at the St. Petes times forum and you, without doubt have been my favourite player. I am gutted to think i won’t see you on the ice in November, it just wont be the same. Best of luck for your future from a sad english supporter x

First, congratulations on your marraige, I sincerely hope all the best for you. I am deeply saddened by the treatment you have received from the new ownership. They are idiots and are screwing up a great team with their reckless shuffling of personnel. I have always been on your side and will continue to be, nothing will ever change that. I will be keeping up with the Sharks and wish you all the best there, too.
Love, Kick

As with all your team mates who have moved on since 2004, remember that you will always walk together, and know that goes for the fans as well. We were all a part of that very special experience and I hope you don’t hold what has happened against the fans or the community. True Bolt fans will go on supporting the team, but there will no doubt be alot of us rooting for the Sharks now as well. Thanks for all you’ve done here and I sincerely wish all the best for you and your new team.

Aw, Dan, we’ll miss you, Dude.  Such a class act…
Thank you for being a part of my hockey love affair, and for your help in bringing the STANLEY CUP TO TAMPA BAY.  We’ll be watching you in SJ…
Congrats on the wedding, and PLEASE tell Luke we adore him, too.
Go Sharks!

It is a sad day in TAMPA. Who in their right mind trades their best defenseman,no one.  I guess that tells us a lot about the mind set of the new owners!  And do they ever lack class, yes it is a business but players shoud be treated with respect.  Lightning hockey won’t be the same without you.  Thanks for teaching us to shoot at Hockey n’ Heels.  GOOD Luck, all the best to you.

I’m so sorry that 07-08 turned out to be such a bad hockey year for you.  I hope this move, as badly handled as it was by OK Hockey, turns out to be the starting point for one of the most successful, rewarding and enjoyable times in your hockey career.  That would be the best revenge!  Good luck to you and your family.

Dan,
I agree that you are the most irreplaceable player on the lightning. I was so happy when you got your contract because I thought it was locked up, man & you were here to stay. I am so sad you are leaving and angry at the new owners for the trade. You are so talented and it was such a pleasure to watch you play.  I know you will do well wherever you go. You are so respected for your work ethic and you are THE BEST. San Jose just got a ton of Tampa fans.  I’ll be rooting for you. Love ya!!

Dan, thank you for being a big part of some of the most precious memories I have with my son, Cory, while we were on our way to the Cup. As a single parent, I held two jobs to make sure that we could be there to see history together.  It was one of the most awesome experiences of my life !Your leaving (as well as Brad and Torts) is really like having part of my family leave--very sad! I wish you the best of luck and hope that you and your family will not leave Tampa forever.

Hey Dan,

First and foremost thanks for everything and good luck in San Jose!

Our prior note (1800 characters) got erased so we’ll summarize this.

Yes, business is business but that should not mean that dishonest and underhanded tactics are ok.  Shame on OK hockey.  This speaks volumes about their integrity.  What good then is a no trade clause?  Seems a worthless stipulation.  Do folks do no-trade/no-waive clauses?

Dan, knowing anything could happen when you had the puck was awesome and we, too, recall the hat trick comeback.  It was a great game to have witnessed as were many others.

You’ll now make a new path in San Jose so kudos to them for seeing your value.

Good luck Dan.  We’ll be watching.

All the best,

Lorri & Frank S.

Dan:

I hope you don’t object to a farewell to Brad on your departing message thread....

Brad:  You will be missed.  Thank you for helping bring a cup to Tampa, and good luck to you and your family in SJ.

You both will have fans in Tampa watching the Sharks this season.

Dan,

You were the most irreplaceable member of this team - just look at last season for proof of that, without you we came in #30. Know that you are respected and appreciated by many thousands of intense hockey fans and others who simply like you because you’re a genuine down to earth nice guy and tireless worker. Your work ethic through the house burning down, multiple tendon surgeries and rehabs and playing when you could hardly grasp your stick etc. will be remembered and revered for years to come like the character, relentless effort and sacrifice of Robbie DiMaio, Robbie Zamuner, Dino Ciccarelli and so many other great Bolts of the past - rock on and enjoy the freaky left coast - thanks for helping bring a Stanley Cup to Tampa Bay

Dan,
You are one of the main reasons I started watching hockey. I wish you all the best in your career, and believe things will only get better. Think I will have to start watching the Sharks play now as well as the Boltz. Good luck and we will miss you no 22.
Walter

Dan:

You’re nothing but an all class guy.  Thank you, Tampa Bay won’t be quite the same without you.

Danny,
You have been the heart and soul of this team. Its killing me to see you go! I have nothing but the utmost respect for you and your work ethic. I listened to your show on 98rock every week and will certainly miss it! Your music choices kick ass! I guess the only thing left is to say is: good luck, work hard, and prove them wrong! You were meant for this team, they were just to blind to see it!

Posted by  Anthony Caselnova, Dade City on 07/05  at  10:36 AM

Dan,
You were one of the best players to ever put on a Lightning uniform. Thanks for everything that you have done for the team. I completely agree with you and everyone else that says the owners treated you like garbage. I’m glad to see that you still have some class unlike some people. I can’t even say how pissed off I am with the owners and how sorry I feel for the way they treated you. Good luck with San Jose. I hear they treat their players with respect, something that this organization no longer does.

Awww… Danny boy.  We’re going to miss you here in Tampa Bay, be it on the ice or on your 98 Rock radio show.  You are the heart and the soul of our defense, and I don’t know what we’re going to do without you.

I’m sorry that the team has disrespected you and treated you like dirt, but I’ll always be thankful for what you’ve done here in Tampa!

Boyler-Man Rap:
You were my backpedal faster,
my slapshot blaster,
my skate-it-in-smooth guy,
my like-the-way-you-move guy.

You were my offensive defenseman,
my hybrid hockey-sense man,
my better puck mover,
my Nickelback groover.

You were my playoff beard guy,
my get-the-puck-cleared guy,
my jokester on Sun Sports guy,
my minutes-man-for-Torts guy.

I just can’t imagine the Bolts without you, Dan Boyle. Thanks for being so nice to my kid in the autograph line 2 years ago. Will follow your career in San Jose. Hope to see you as a color commentator one day.

Danny,
I haven’t been a hockey fan for long so I’m not used to the “business” side of the game (got to tell you it sucks).  I’m sad to see you go this way (or go at all) but thank you for all of your hard work and talent, and for playing such a big part in the team that made me a hockey fan.
All the best to you and your family.

Posted by  Patty, Tampa on 07/05  at  09:16 AM

Danny, thank you so much for helping to bring the Stanley Cup to Tampa.  I am concerned about this new ownership and it’s (apparent) propensity to manipulate players and coaches using the media.  It all seems rather sleazy to me.  That said, I’ll always remember your third period hat-trick that sparked a comeback against the Rangers!  The very best of luck to you in San Jose.

Posted by  Stacey Phillips, Riverview on 07/05  at  08:32 AM

Dan,
It’s been a pleasure watching you play for the Lightning. I am incredibly sad to see you go, but know that you will do great in San Jose. Good luck to you and Amber as you start a new family and chapter in your lives. I can’t wait to see you raise the Cup again!

Side note - I will be one the first ones to get my Boyle Sharks jersey.

Posted by  Cam, Gainesville on 07/05  at  08:31 AM

Dan,
We’ll miss seeing you weave up the ice with the puck glued to your stick (remember New York!)—and those razor sharp passes, half the length of the rink, catching Marty streaking toward the far blue line.

Thanks for battling through fire & injury, helping our team bring home a Stanley Cup and us endure last season’s sad conclusion. You’ve had an epic journey here, full of great highs and crushing lows—but you’ve always shown class & character.

Also, thanks to you, our 11 year old son discovered Nickelback - our collection of Dan Boyle bobbleheads keeps on nodding to the beat…

Good luck in San Jose to you, teammate Brad, wife Amber, and an as yet unnamed Boyle prospect, due November!

Dan am sorry to see you go, San Jose has just gotten so much better, not just on the ice, but in the locker room. You are a class guy and I will miss you shots from the point always!  Godspeed to you and your new family.

Posted by  Linda Nettleship, UK on 07/05  at  03:26 AM

Dan,
So very sorry to see you go. Yet again not handled very professionally! I wish you all the best with your new team - onwards and upwards!
