Despite needing 25 stitches to close a hand laceration suffered in the first half against Florida State, University of South Florida LB Kion Wilson didn’t stay out long.
“He went out and got taped up and came back out in the second quarter,” Bulls coach Jim Leavitt said. “That’s him. … He’s not always a big vocal guy, but he does it by example. And that was certainly one of them.”
The toughness shown by Wilson, who leads the team with 22 tackles, has impressed defensive coordinator Joe Tresey.
“If you ever go to battle you want that guy in your foxhole,” Tresey said. “He is a coach’s dream.”
ODDS AND ENDS: RB Jamar Taylor, who suffered a knee injury in a preseason scrimmage, will start running next week. Leavitt said the decision to redshirt Taylor will be determined by how long it takes him to fully recover. … While his status for Syracuse is questionable, WR Jessie Hester (hamstring) “is getting closer,” Leavitt said. … SS Jerrell Young, who broke his arm in Week 1, is out again this week but could be ready for the Cincinnati game Oct. 15, Leavitt said.
