Bucs Report
Language Barrier

There are still several areas the Bucs need to improve upon, including Coach Jon Gruden’s sideline presence.

Gruden apologized for his antics in yesterday’s game in which a FOX microphone picked up Gruden yelling obscenities.

“I have a lot of work to do. I’m doing my best,” Gruden said. “I embarrass myself and my mom and my family sometimes.

“I’ve got to show much more poise in that situation.”

Must be the Bucs are winning again all the Bucs Bashers have to complain about is Grudens language! I’ve heard worse on the radio in the car next to me at the redlight! I love Gruden’s passion for the game its great to see emotion on the sideline not just a guy standing there like a statue. Go Gruden!! Go Bucs!!!

I agree with the previous comments that are miffed as to why we never read a report on why Gruden was so upset.  Katherine, don’t you think that was a little important?

Gruden, just keep doing what you do man.  I love seeing him get fired up.  Seems like when he is fired up, we win or are winning.  We need Chucky to be as much Chucky as Chucky can be.

Thats alright gruden speak your mind, do your thing to win these games.

Pro football is basically a blue collar job that pays white collar wages. In that atmosphere the profanity is normal. I don’t understand the controversy surrounding it. Anyplace I’ve ever worked that type language is common place. I wish the league would rate their games R and give us more side line talk and happenings.I loved it when he went off. What was never reported was what he was complaining about. It seemed it was directed toward the officials. No one knows because he was using adult language in an adult situation.

The Buc Nation has spoken and all agree - Gurden’s “THE MAN” and this team and these fans are all behind him!  We are all going to f-bomb our way to beating New England in a few months; and the media better just deal with that!  Pirates rule, and BTW - they never used nice words too.  Pound the rock Bucs till there’s nothing but fracking sand left!

let this be a good lesson to fox, espn, cbs and nbc…you might want to keep your cameras and microphones on the field and not the sidelines…we’d like to know what happens between the lines not outsde the lines or in the locker room…this is a violent game played at a high emotional level by grown men…don’t get “up close and in person” and then pretend to be shocked by what your cameras record…

Coaches - coach.  Although it doesn’t sound nice to mom and the kids - he is doing what he gets paid to do - coach.  You can appologize all you want Big John, be we here in Buc Nation want you to remain the same - just keep winning baby.  Go Buc’s

Regarding Gruden’s antics and behavior: I’d much rather have a fiery, combative and passionate coach who can motivate players to play up to their highest level, than a stoic coach, walking the sidelines that could NEVER win the Big Games here in Tampa.  We shouldn’t judge a man’s character by OUTWORD appearance. Gruden has accepted responsibility for his outburst and apologized.  To me, that takes one hell of a great person, to admit wrong.  To me, THAT in itself speaks volumes about Gruden’s character and leadership.  I hope the Bucs sign him to a new long term contract.  He’s the BEST coach ever to coach the Bucs!

Gruden is a man coaching men,He’s not coaching 10 year old kids.If the team doesn’t care about his language why should we!!!!!!.Fox knows that most NFL coaches use bad language!!!!,so if anything Fox should accept some responsibility for placing a camera on Gruden and not placing couple second delay on the film.Maybe Fox should show the players on the field and not the coach or second string waterboy!!!!!!!!!! stop bieng so politically correct it makes me want to puke

Keep up the good work chucky

all we care bout is the hard work and the copmetition.

we want the W in every game we dont care how.

NOTE: we like you the way you are. dont change your coaching style. it is what made the coach you are.

Katherine Smith,
You have a lot of areas that you must improve upon in order to be a half-way decent sports reporter. Until you fix your own problems, please don’t worry about the best coach in the world and what he has to say on the sidelines. Just leave Jon Gruden alone why don’t you!!!!!!
Thanks

Gruden, don’t change. We love your intensity and emotion.  As far as I am concerned you are the face of the Bucs!  Be who you are Gruden and don’t change for anyone.  Keep doin’ what your doin’ and the Bucs will be fine.  Watch out people for the Bucs, they’re rollin’!!!

Posted by  dan sager, tampa on 12/04  at  08:21 PM

Leave Gruden alone, chastise the director who kept him on camera just to exploit the fact he was using profanity.  When Tiger Woods is on camera and starts using profanity (and that happens frequently) they immediately cut away.  That’s responsible journalism..  But, how often are responsible and journalism used in the same sentence anymore.  Men in stressful situations curse..  Oh well..

YOU KNOW, THE MEDIA IS GETTING EXACTLY WHAT THET PLANNED HEN THEY BROADCAST HIS TEMPER TANTRUM ON SUNDAY. THEN WANT ARM CHAIR QUARTERBACKS LIKE SOME OF US ANALYZING AND OVER-ANALYZING THINGS OTHER PEOPLE DO. THAT IS WHAT’S WRONG WITH OUR SOCIETY TODAY. PERSONALLY, I THINK THAT FOOTBALL IS NOT FAMILY TIME. IT’S A SPORT BUT FACE IT, IT’S A VIOLENT ONE. IF YOU HAVE TAUGHT YOUR KIDS N E THING(LIKE A PARENT SHOULD) THEN THEY KNOW NOT TO IMITATE GRUDEN. GOOD JOB JON…COACH OF THE YEAR?

Posted by  Burger Brian,  on 12/04  at  07:59 PM

It’s 12/4 and I am predicting 12-4 for the BUCS. This week is the toughest of the remaining games. This team is confident ~ and not so much that they will take anyone lightly.

No one looks forward to that San Fran trip ~ xcept maybe this year! This should be a FUN last quarter! Bucs fans should look forward to this!

Posted by  wade less, clermont on 12/04  at  05:11 PM

I wouldn’t trust a man that doesn’t curse. At least not in a head coaching situation that is.

Posted by  Andrew Rendueles, Tampa, Fl on 12/04  at  12:33 PM

Imagine that, there’s cursing in pro football. Who knew.

A good example of this is the difference between two Hall of Famers:

Mild mannered, moral, well disciplined -
Tom Landry

One of the greatest to ever coach the game…

Hot headed, intense, fiery, sometimes out of line-
Mike Ditka

Also one of the greats…

I appreciate a little more professional restraint, but I love Gruden as a Coach as well!!!

12-4 Bucs are possible people!

I have say as a family man I admire Dungy’s Commitment to character, which came with attention to details.

I have to say as a former player I also admire Gruden’s Bear Bryant like intensity, which sometimes comes with language.

I think that both coaches are extremely good at what they do and it has nothing to do with their expressive language, or holding of the tongue, in Dungy’s case.

Posted by  Michael Harris, Tampa, FL on 12/04  at  10:39 AM

Let’s hope Garcia is healthy.  The Texans will be without their starting QB, who went down with a shoulder separation on Sunday.  I vote for starting Luke again the next two games and resting Garcia to play in the last two games and the playoffs.  Just my opinion though.

Posted by  Nick, Ft Myers on 12/04  at  09:40 AM

Next time Fox should turn up the mic when Gruden is all pumped up!!! You got to love Gruden!!

Posted by  Adam, Tampa on 12/04  at  08:45 AM

Keep calling plays the way you called them on Sunday and I could care less the language you use on the sidelines. This is football, not a bridge club.

Posted by  Todd Smith, Sarasota on 12/03  at  08:27 PM

Chucky is the man. He handled it well in his Press conference today. I just wanted to hear everything else he was saying about the bad call or calls or the Refs’ response. Instead they only turned up the mic on the F_bomb. I still would like to know exactly what his beef was with the Refs. The stupid reporter todat should have asked more specifically about why he was so animated. It must have been something really bad with a call or no-call. Chucky has really been pretty good this year, but that really set him off. So what was it that set him off. Someone please tell me. Go Bucs !!! the only team that can and will beat the Pats in the Superbowl. Go Bucs !!!

Posted by  Steven Christopher, Riverview on 12/03  at  07:06 PM

Funny, were in a sport where Gruden is on the sideline, not behind a mic and the mic picks up his “f-bomb” and he apologizes…..I’m sure Tiger has to apologize often for his creative use of the English Language after a tee-shot goes awry.

Gruden shouldn’t apologize, the Network knows of Grudens volatility and are hoping for a moment like that….here’s a novel idea—-blame the network for not having the common sense to pan away from the outburst, maybe show it prior to a commercial break when they can disguise the words with fade out music.

Posted by  Patrick Dotson, Tampa,FL on 12/03  at  05:50 PM

look people…gruden is a grown man and so are the players…any network should know if they put a mic on gruden or a camera on gruden…they should know what to except..he has coached in the nfl for how long…he hasnt changed…hes not going to change…get the point….GO BUCS!
